Is my website ready for Google Ads?

A short checklist to run before spending on ads, so the traffic you pay for has somewhere worth landing.

Ads amplify whatever you already have. If the page converts one in twenty visitors, spending more just means paying for twenty more. Run through this before you turn anything on.

Does the page match the ad?

Advertising "emergency plumbing Doncaster" and landing people on your home page loses a large share of them immediately. Every ad group needs a page about that exact thing.

Does it load quickly on a phone?

Most paid clicks are mobile. A page taking more than three seconds on 4G is losing people you've already paid for, and slow pages cost more per click, because Google grades the experience.

Is contacting you obvious?

  • +Phone number tappable in the header
  • +A short form above the fold or one scroll away
  • +A clear statement of when you'll reply
  • +No more required fields than you genuinely need

Is there any reason to trust you?

Reviews, real photos, licence or registration numbers, years in business, areas serviced. Paid visitors are colder than organic ones, they've never heard of you, so the page has to do the reassuring.

Can you tell what worked?

Conversion tracking for form submissions and calls, set up and tested before launch. Without it you're guessing, and guessing gets expensive quickly.

If you fail two or more of these

Fix the page first. It's usually a week of work, it makes your organic traffic convert better too, and every ad dollar afterwards goes further.

I've started my own businesses over the years, and every time you learn the same lesson: none of this information is easy to find when you need it. Which path to take, which tools are worth paying for, whether the website builder you picked will still suit you in two years, it's all guesswork until you've made the mistakes yourself.
